Kusama embarked on her "My Eternal Soul" series of large canvases in 2009. The paintings of this series are done by brush with acrylic paint on canvas primed in a flat monochrome. Some are painted with a single color, while others show an array of colors, including gold, silver, and copper metallics.
The paintings started out sized at 162cm x 130.3cm and 162cm x 162 cm, but then standardized to a square measuring 194cm x 194cm. The series is marked by extremely rich variation, with figuritive motifs and abstract patterns freely coexisitng. As new versions are added to this ongoing series, it becomes clear that the paintings embody a compendium of every element of Kusama's work in her evolution as an inspired creator. The exhibition features 132 paintings, including new works, from the series that now numbers over 500 works.
