Challenging new fields rather than abandoning traditions

Okuda Print is located in Hachioji, Tokyo since 1942, mainly dyes and finishes in silk-screen printing.

I have just moved to Tokyo in 2014 and since my graphic design background and fascination of textiles, I came upon Okuda Print. Back then they used to offer monthly classes to print on your choice of fabric. I went there every month and it was my first experience, which led me to be fascinated by Japanese craftsmanship.

The place itself was messy and full of stuff. Somehow there was so much life in it. My other classmates ranged from young to almost 80 years old!

"Even though it was messy the thoughtfulness and cleanliness of tools and respect towards the craft really left me with a deep appreciation of Japanese craftsmanship."

A few years after I went to Bunka Fashion College for a workshop with my work team. I found out that they also teach at Bunka and had the opportunity to meet them again.
